Lilly and Luca - Part 2

A few days ago I got some pictures of the two kittens Lilly and Luca published. Since the images were taken as positive and in the selection of photos Lilly was a little too short, I decided to furnish a few more pictures.

Pictures of Lilly:

Lilly investigates the garden
Views of interested
Under the predator
Playful

Luca will not be so jealous:

The rogue

Out of competition, but thematically fitting, I've found a nice picture archive. This shot from April 2006 was created by chance in an old barn window:

Adobe Lightroom 2.0 - Camera Calibration

Filed under Software , Tips & Tricks

The current version 2 of the Universal tool is Lightroom from Adobe has been around for some time. It comes up with many detail improvements.

So now it's recipes (changes) are also used to image areas and not just globally. Field correction functions were also added to the possibility of extensions (modules), similar to Adobe Photoshop integrate. A new feature treatments but are still in the shadows: the camera calibration.

The camera calibration is to peculiarities of the individual sensors in digital camera development of RAW to take into account data. Classically, this is done by the manufacturer's software. Photographers have repeatedly criticized that they have developed with the software manufacturer RAW files as the initial results were pleasing Adobe Lightroom or Adobe Camera RAW. Adobe seems to have heard. At least, there has recently been on the website of the Adobe Labs released a beta version of the DNG Profiles and Camera . These allow easy profiling Lightroom on the camera. The installer package for Windows and Mac provides presets for cameras with many renowned manufacturers alike.

automatisch nur die zur Kamera passenden Profile ein. Hidden by the EXIF information in images Lightroom automatically only to the camera matching profiles. In the accompanying screen shot of the Canon camera. auf einfache Weise die gleichen geräteoptimierten Ergebnisse wie mit den Herstellertools erreicht. This will in Lightroom or Adobe Camera RAW easily achieved the same results as device-optimized tools with the manufacturer.

Canon EOS 50D

On the Internet the rumors for a long time. At the latest after last Friday (22/08/2008) on the Japanese website of the manufacturer's "mistake" a product to the designated successor of the Canon EOS 40D was released, it was clear to many: the time of the EOS 40D is coming to an end.

This is especially noticeable that Canon 50D with the announcement of its product cycle of 15 months in this class of camera clearly falls. The reason for this could be the strong competition from Nikon, the D300 had brought one with your camera on the market, which the 40D in certain sectors not look very good read.

In an official press release for Canon EOS 50D now also the final specs are known. The new read essentially as a Product maintenance of its predecessor. So the much-criticized LCD screen is improved. The new resolution of 920,000 pixels should the manual focusing in Live mode much easier.

The second major change is the resolution. Here whopping 15.1 megapixel Canon dares to. Klasse enorm viel. Enormous for an APS-C sensor in the DSLR class a lot. Canon promises reduced by the new processor, improved noise reduction and significantly improved micro lenses to have the resolution, despite the noise. This would also be necessary in order to keep pace with the competition. Whether this technical miracle has indeed been the first practical tests will have to show.

Aufnahmen in Folge) trotz der höheren Datenmenge gehalten werden konnte. The new DIGIC 4 processor now supports CompactFlash cards with UDMA and was in its speed optimized so that the old shooting speed of about 6 frames per second (90 JPEGs/16 RAW shots in a row), despite the higher amount of data are kept.

Another innovation over the EOS 40D is the ability to recordings with extremely high ISO values to generate. Here are two modes of operation with ISO 6400 and ISO 12800 are announced. However, whether these are practical and therefore represent an improvement remains to be seen.

In addition, a few more enhancements, see the detail. Here, a new coating of the sensor are mentioned, which will reduce the dust problem further. The camera can now as the professional class (1D) can be adjusted and thus reduce AF problems and vignetting automatically count out up to 20 lenses. In addition, Canon has equipped the newcomer an HDMI connection.

A total of promises, the EOS 50D camera is a very interesting sources to be used with the Canon to the Nikon D300 high-flyer at least very close to that. Whether they may differ in details, just keep the noise what it promises, it will show.

According to Canon, we may expect the new showpiece of the semi-professional DSLR class in late September for EUR 1,300 in the trade. The Canon EOS 40D will remain temporarily on the range.

Lilly and Luca

Baby animals exert a special attraction. The playful little kittens are just clumsy sweet. The disadvantage for photographers: keep quiet in the rarest cases, and are therefore hardly keep in the viewfinder.

So it was not easy to photograph the children of our two cats girlfriend. The fast movements require very short exposure times (1 / 250 to 1 / 1000 seconds) to avoid motion blur. In addition, a faster autofocus advantage. To get more light, resulting in shorter exposure times, I have the following pictures with zoom lenses with fixed focal lengths taken place.

The first portrait was created with my Canon EF 50mm 1:1.8 II at 1 / 800 second and aperture 2.2.

Contracts ¤ umt

The following two pictures were taken with the Canon EF 28mm 1:2.8 was added at 1 / 640 seconds, respectively, 1 / 1000 second at each diaphragm 4.

Many thanks to the patient model for the relaxed shooting ;-) and of course to the "Cat Mom".

The Hofgarten Kempten

Filed under visual images , panoramas

Located in the city center of Kempten, framed by the residence, the Basilica of St. Lawrence and the orangery, the Kempten Hofgarten. The symmetrically designed park in the French style is part of the system of residence of the abbots pen city of Kempten.

The courtyard garden with residence and St. Lawrence Basilica

The above panoramic image of a 360 ° view of the courtyard garden was included in the HDR process. Several frames in different exposure levels are combined into one image to increase the dynamic range of the image. A total of 24 individual photos of this were needed, which were then allocated to each other. Using the same technique was also the following view of the St. Lawrence Basilica.

Basilica of St. Lawrence
Basilica of St. Lorenz in Kempten

The opposite side of the courtyard garden will be completed by the Orangery. This now houses the town library of Kempten.
