High-quality screen protector made of glass

Filed under My Equipment , Accessories

Since the displays to the always high-quality cameras and larger, should be for my new digital camera a decent protection for the display ago. In the past I've had my monitors the cameras are always provided with protective films.

These protective films but have the disadvantage that their optical properties are very good. Even with high-quality films, the reproduction characteristics of the displays were limited visible. Furthermore, the protective effect is limited to minor scratches, because the film is soft and a table Did not stand up safely.

More by accident than by structured'm searching I then stumbled on the protective glass of the company GGS. The "LCD protector," as she calls him GGS consists of six layers of glass laminated together which measure just 0.5 mm. The optical glass is toughened and anti-reflective coating to 90%. The glass is glued only at the edge, so that no bubbles and the display is not clouded by an adhesive.

The assembly was correspondingly simple: clean the display, put on protective glass and press down. The result was impressive. The properties of the display remained fully intact, the glass makes a very strong impression. The nose is not in danger. The glass is clean and has rounded to spot. In return let finger and nose prints much easier to remove.

For me is clear: No more film.

The first days with the EOS 50D

Filed under Cameras , My Equipment

For weeks I've been waiting for me again and again I was promised they would receive in the next few days, but then it was finally time. On Monday of this week I could hold in their hands. The Canon EOS 50D.

In late August, I have here the announced Canon EOS 50D . End of September, they should then be available. Until the actual commercial availability but then it took until the 9th October. The wait was worth it. The camera is a dream and I want to describe my first impression.

This report is deliberately subjective. I want to do with the camera and not a series of tests, because I believe it was built exactly for that. The camera fits comfortably in your hand and processed properly. The housing is apart from the silver dial and the label is identical to its predecessor, the EOS 40D. The display is extremely good. Very high resolution and good anti-reflective coating. It is also ideal for field evaluation in the live mode. I have my display with a protective glass of GGS provided, which, unlike the better known protectors significantly better optical properties and a better protective effect.

The live mode is the next highlight. Introduced with the EOS 40D's successor with other auto-focus functions has been fitted. It is now possible without the mirror to fold it back with the help of a contrast AF to focus. This is somewhat slower than the normal-phase AF (still possible), but very accurate. The contrast AF is accompanied by a facial recognition as it is known from the compact camera class.

The speed is phenomenal. Despite the enormous amount of data (~ 20-25 MB per image), the camera responds very fast. I have not measured it, but 4-5 frames per second are quite realistic.

Some macro and night shots this week proved to be very efficient operation of the camera. The Quick View and the arrangement of buttons make the work in the dark, the displays are very easy to read even at night.

Least a few words about the noise performance. By increasing the resolution of 15 MP on an APS-C sensor generally more noise was expected. In my attempts to record up to ISO 1600 have proven to be very good. Subjectively fallen ISO 1600 with the EOS 50D like ISO 400 for the Canon EOS 400D . Also photos at ISO 3200 are useful, but should be at higher Nutzauflösungen possibly denoised on a PC with appropriate software. The Entrauschungsalgorithmus processor (digit 4) proceeds as carefully, so that no details are lost. The high ISO settings, however I believe only for small resolutions such as web images are suitable. There is just possible to operate at very low light even with short exposure times, which is certainly pleased some party photographers.

My personal conclusion: The move has paid off for me, give the EOS 50D I certainly do not recover as quickly.

Sure, I'll report back here for more detail and publish some pictures. First, however, once one of the very first pictures I've shot. And what should one EDVL photograph after a long day at work otherwise - at least if you want to maintain some clichés ;-) .
