Lightroom 3: Profiles for Tamron Lens and Canon

) eine Funktion zur Korrektur optischer Fehler von Objektiven eingebaut. Adobe has built into its third version of the tool photographers in Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop CS5 (Camera RAW) is a function for correcting optical aberrations of lenses. Unfortunately, the selection of supported lenses is limited.

As mentioned in my presentation by Adobe Lightroom 3 above, this "one-click correction" is not only simple but also achieves very good results. Unfortunately, there are a few of my beloved lenses not in the list of supported lenses. Especially for my very frequently used Tamron zoom lens profile is not included. For this reason I have my work done with the help of Adobe Lens Profile Creator to create the necessary self-correction profiles. Nearly 400 different settings were necessary to produce the raw material for the three lens profiles. Above all, creating a useful profile for a super zoom lens requires some patience.

Result

Adobe Lensprofile Tamron AF 28-300mm
LD bei 28 mm. The example shows a 100% cut of the right lower corner of a shot with the Canon EOS 50D and the Tamron AF 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di VC LD at 28 mm.

The results speak for themselves. Clearly visible are the distortion and chromatic aberration (color fringing) in the original. After application of the lens profile, these errors are almost completely compensated.

Unfortunately, the portal is planned from Adobe for the exchange of privately created adjustment profiles (yet) and also the function for online submission of finished profiles to Adobe is not currently functional. und Adobe Photoshop auch der Allgemeinheit zugänglich zu machen, habe ich hier das Paket zum Download eingestellt. In order to still the profiles I created for Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Camera Raw and Adobe Photoshop to make even the general public, I have set the package to download. The profiles include the following objectives:

Lightroom 3

A few days ago the final release of Adobe Lightroom 3 is commercially available. What innovations and improvements are worth it and an update?

(siehe unten). After the long Lightroom Beta 3 is now available for several days, the finished product to buy, or a trial version for download (see below). The third generation of Adobe's photographers tool is characterized primarily by changes in detail.

New import module

The Import module has been completely revised. The new tripartite view clearly guides the user through the import process. The preview images to be imported has now given much more space. The source selection is now automatically displays the available drives and connected devices. While the camera is pointed directly to the storage medium. All settings can be saved in a template and import are selected so quickly. So far this Vorlangenfunktion was limited to the keywords and EXIF / IPTC tags.

Users of video cameras with built-in function will look for the new import feature films.

To my mind to the much heralded poorly tethered shooting is advised. fernbedient werden. With this function, a Canon or Nikon DSLR be remotely operated directly from Lightroom. The captured images will then be taken directly to the catalog. Unfortunately, in this module remote control just as the trigger. Since Canon EOS, with its tools more clearly.

Development

For me personally, the Develop module, two real highlights. First I would like to mention the new function of the lens correction. Here, pre-defined profiles for optical defects such as distortion, vignetting and chromatic aberration can be corrected with just one click. Adobe to deliver finished profiles for some lenses of Canon, Nikon and Sigma (Tamron and Sony together for only a negligible three profiles). For more profiles, the user can even use the Adobe Lens Profile Creator to create for its lenses.

The second highlight is the improved function for noise reduction. Lightroom 3 can also reduce luminance noise for the first time. The results are incomparably better than they would have been obtained with Lightroom 2. The example image shows a picture of a compact camera (Canon PowerShot SX110IS) at ISO 400 in RAW mode as a 100% crop.

Also new is a function for correcting perspective and the ability to emulate the classic film grain effects.

Other

In addition to the aforementioned improvements, there are some details worth mentioning. The export module can now be integrated into third-party plugins. Included is a plugin for directly synchronizing the personal photo collection with the online service Flickr. In addition, the printing function was complemented by a more flexible layout design, which should help, among other things, to save paper.

The slide show can now also provide sound effects to the picture. In addition to the existing facilities and the immediate view of the export as PDF, the slideshows can be exported to MP4 video. This allows the output resolution to 1080p pretend.

Conclusion and links

From my perspective, the changes are most probably Lightroom 3 evolution than revolution. The speed over previous versions of the catalog is much better, the noise reduction should be the first time, call it that. Overall, a successful update of a good product.

Adobe Lightroom 3 can be described as a 30-day trial version buy directly from Adobe:

Improvements to the program itself should speed up the import and load the images clearly.

By professional photographers long expected and now first implemented in the beta 2 is the "tethered shooting" function. angesprochen und ferngesteuert. Here, the camera via USB or FireWire is directly addressed by Lightroom and remotely. In addition to a direct import from the camera functions are therefore also possible that were previously possible only with manufacturers programs (remote triggering, image preview, etc.). Supports this function but is currently only a small selection of cameras:

  • Canon
    • EOS 1Ds Mark II (32-bit operating systems)
    • EOS 1D Mark III

Have been significantly reworked the image processing functions. Besides minor changes in the functions for trimming, watermark or vignetting, A new method Demosaik get the details, texture and sharpness of the better noise reduction. Also new is that now dominates the noise reduction and the reduction of luminance noise. Already the first beta version of Lightroom 3 resulted in considerable improvement of the color noise over version 2.6.

The Adobe Lightroom 3 Beta 2 can be downloaded for free from Adobe. A license is needed to do that. Detailed descriptions of all changes and improvements (in English) can be removed from the release notes for the current beta.
